Description

Late afternoon is the best time to walk through Siena. The day visitors are leaving, the light turns warm on the brick façades, and the historic centre goes back to being a place where people live. With your licensed guide, you set off in the golden hour from a convenient meeting point in the centre. From one of the finest viewpoints over the city, you make your way through the rises and falls of the historic centre to Piazza del Campo, the shell-shaped square where the Palio is run, and up to the Duomo, at its most striking in the evening light, while your guide fills in the stories and rivalries behind the race. The walk lasts about an hour and a half and can end with an Italian aperitivo in an elegant local café — a glass of Tuscan wine or a cocktail, with something to eat, in the unhurried way the Sienese close their day. The tour is completely private and arranged around you, with the meeting point and start time agreed in advance.
