Florence was one of the wealthiest cities in medieval Europe, a centre of trade and banking whose fortunes helped finance the Renaissance — and its compact historic centre still reads like a map of that period. This private tour is arranged entirely around you and can be built as a walking tour of the city, a visit to the Uffizi Gallery, or both together in a single day. The city on foot. The walking tour lasts about three hours and starts in Piazza della Repubblica, which stands on the site of the Roman forum. From there, it covers the monuments and squares that shaped Florence: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with Brunelleschi's dome, the Baptistery, Piazza della Signoria with Palazzo Vecchio, and Ponte Vecchio with its goldsmiths' workshops. It works as an orientation tour — an ideal way to begin a first visit, or to see the essentials properly when time is short. Adding the Uffizi. To the walk, you can add a guided visit to the Uffizi Gallery, home to one of the world's foremost collections of Florentine Renaissance painting, built on the Medici collections.
