Description

San Gimignano is one of the most recognisable towns in Tuscany: a medieval hilltop skyline of stone towers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by the vineyards of its famous white wine. This private tour combines a guided visit of the town with the option of tasting that wine where it is made. A private guide leads you into the walled town through Porta San Giovanni to Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo, with the frescoes of the Collegiate Church and views over the surrounding hills from among the medieval towers — and the story of how a small town came to build them, and why so many still stand after more than 900 years. The town has given its name to Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the first Italian wine ever to receive DOC status, in 1966, and still the only white DOCG in Tuscany — a wine recorded here since 1276 and named in Dante's Divine Comedy. To the visit, you can add tastings at one or more local wineries, chosen together with you.
