Description

A guided tour of the Uffizi is an opportunity to discover the history of the city of Florence and its evolution through a collection of works of art of inestimable value: the ancient sculptures, drawings and prints, hundreds of portraits and self-portraits of artists, the Jovian and courtly series. These endless collections are the outline of the paintings that have been exhibited in the halls of the palace, following a chronological order, so as to allow the visitor to experience the illusion of a journey where history is told through images, colors and iridescence. Such as the three great Majesties painted by Cimabue, Giotto di Bondone and Duccio di Buoninsegna and the art of the early 1300s, follow the masterpieces of the Renaissance, through the elegance of Gentile da Fabriano. It continues with other examples of the Florentine Renaissance through the works of the Del Pollaiolo brothers and Alessandro Filipepi, better known as Botticelli. The Gallery offers us the most famous masterpieces by Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael, but also contains works of exquisite and controversial workmanship, made in the period of the Counter-Reformation and that exude all the discomfort absorbed by the Mannerist artistic world of painters such as Pontormo, Rosso Fiorentino and Andrea del Sarto and the courtly, learned and precise art of Bronzino. The seventeenth-century works of Caravaggio, Gherardo delle Notti and Artemisia Gentileschi conclude the museum itinerary.
