Description

A private day through Chianti, the hills between Siena and Florence, following the Via Chiantigiana — the panoramic road that runs through the heart of the wine country.

In 1716, Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici drew the boundaries of the Chianti, defining by law the area best suited to producing its wine — one of the earliest delimitations of a wine region anywhere in Europe. That historic zone, between Siena and Florence, is the same land the Chianti Classico appellation still covers today, marked by its Gallo Nero seal. Three centuries on, these hills produce some of the best wine in Italy.

The route crosses a landscape of vineyards, small villages, fortifications and parish churches, with stops such as Monteriggioni — the walled village whose towers Dante used as his image for the giants of the Inferno — and Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of the Classico, with free time in a medieval village. Along the way, the tour stops at two wineries for tastings.

Because the tour is entirely private, it is built around you: the programme and timings are agreed in advance, and the wineries are chosen together with you when the service is arranged — from a simple tasting to a cellar visit, an in-depth experience or lunch at the estate.
